Machine Technology

Highly skilled machinists are currently in great demand & @Laney_College has a Machine Technology program. The last open house before class starts will be this Saturday, January 18 from 10:00 a.m. – noon.

Machine technology instructor Louis Quindlen shows a student how to measure and cut a precision taper. One of the many employable tasks the program teaches is Blueprint reading, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing, and 3-D solid modeling.

Graphic Arts

Providing a first-tier education the Laney College Graphic Arts Department can provide learning experience and skills using industry-standard graphic design software. Adobe Creative Cloud products: InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop along with Web Technologies, which is used in print and online media world. They also a new Animation certificate to our program. Here is an example of some of the students work from a showcase featuring that semester’s students’ best work. This showcase was hosted just before the holiday break on December 12, 2019.

Culinary Arts Department

Love to cook, bake or find interest in the restaurant industry? Many of the students in the culinary program find jobs in their chosen career path before they graduate due to high demand and partnerships with businesses that have a high need for qualified staff.

Per the Culinary Arts Department website: @laneyculinary provides students with the knowledge, skills, and experience that will enhance successful employment in the various career paths available in the Culinary Arts industry. The two certificate programs (majors) in this department are Baking and Pastry and Culinary Arts Restaurant Management. They pIn addition to the two certificate programs, we offer a one-year Culinary Foundations Certificate of Achievement in cooking for only 16 units! The programs include pre-employment courses, supervised experience prior to employment, extension classes, and short-term workshops for upgrading skills. Classes are approved by multiple professional organizations, including the Retail Bakers Association (RBA) and the National Restaurant Association (NRA). https://laney.edu/culinary_arts/
